Bangladesh Appeal
The cause of the problem
Massive river erosion, floods and cyclones have become serious afflictions in recent decades in Bangladesh. As a result of the erosion, thousands of families have been displaced, and become refugees in their own country.
Floods in the great rivers of Bangladesh have swept away their farmland, their homes, and their public places such as schools, bazaars and places of worship. They have been left destitute, and have been forced to build little huts for shelter at the side of public roads, where there is no drinking water, and no kitchens or toilet facilities.
Women, children, and the elderly are most vulnerable and likely to suffer the most.
Following is a part of their story in pictures

Can we do something to help them? Yes! Let’s do it!
The World Citizens Association (Australia) in collaboration with Faith and Hope Welfare Association (an NGO in Bangladesh) has launched a program to build schools in these areas devastated by river erosions and floods.
These multi-purpose centres aim to provide general education, moral lessons, vocational training and future employment opportunities for the young children of the area, whose families have been left with nothing.
It only takes $10,000.00 to establish such a center, which will provide facilities for up to 20 children. A 24 hour care program will look after their health and nutrition, provide them with safe drinking water, proper sanitation facilities, moral teaching and support, as well as educational and occupational training.
You can help! All we need from you is 1 dollar per day for one child. Your one dollar a day could save a child and help a family to grow - but any contribution will be more than welcome.
If you are sponsoring a child, details of the child with photographs and yearly reports on their progress will be provided.
The World Citizens Association (Australia) is conducting this appeal in conjunction with FHWA. The WCA stands for global solutions to global problems, and is campaigning for democratic global governance. To show solidarity with others in our region, and provide a concrete focus for our activities, we are undertaking overseas aid projects. For further information, see our website: http://www.worldcitizens.org.au
Please note that WCA is already supporting a free primary school in the area (see above) established by a local organisation (Wajifa Noor Ashmatia Foundation). Currently more than 200 children who never dreamed of going to school are studying there. For further information, please contact the
